(Readers may, if they wish, read these essays in the actual order: 3, 1, 2. This inverted order was not entirely intentional, but it will be obvious that reading them in the order 2, 3, 1 does make a difference.)

चित्रकार मदन मीणा पिछले कुछ समय से मीणा स्त्रियों की कला पर शोध कर रहे हैं और यहाँ प्रस्तुत माँडणा भित्ति चित्रों का संचयन उनके द्वारा किए गए फोटोग्राफीय दस्तावेजीकरण का एक नमूना है. माँडणा कोरने वाली स्त्रियाँ जो संसार बनाती है वह लगभग मनुष्येतर संसार है. इसमें पशु पक्षी हैं,, वस्तुएं हैं, अमूर्त डिज़ाईनें हैं, मनुष्य नहीं. और जो है वह भी वैसा नहीं जैसा हमें सामान्यतः दिखाई पड़ता है. जिस ‘हार्मनी’ के तर्क से इसमें प्रकृति के कई तत्त्व एक जगह इकट्ठे हो जाते हैं मानो उसी तर्क से उनके घरों की दीवारों पर उनकी कला के साथ, उसके बिल्कुल बगल में, देवी देवताओं और बालीवुड की अभिनेत्रियों के पोस्टर भी दृश्य का हिस्सा बन जाते हैं.

The painter, Madan Meena, has been researching the art of Meena women for a while now and the collection of Mandana wall-paintings featured here are part of his photographic documentation. The world created by the Meena women in the Mandana is a world made of animals, birds, decorative patterns, but no humans. If at all they are there, they are scarcely recognizable. The “harmony” depicted in Mandana by the juxtaposition of various elements from nature can also be seen in their homes where, right beside their art, the walls are decorated with images of gods and goddesses and posters of bollywood actresses.
